Clothing in pre-1775 America
Background
Unlike today, the clothing in the early 1700's was handmade with various natural materials, very conservative, and changed as times progressed. Factors like wealth, religion, labor, and location all contributed to the style. The middle class and the poor did not have the choices to dress freely as the wealthy and upper class did. The upper class, with more money, could obviously afford better material and have an abundance of clothing. The style of a person's clothing was based on their status in society as well as their occupation. Different occasions, activities, and occupations caused for different outfits.
